Αν και είχε προηγηθεί το Pong της Atari, το Channel F ήταν η πρώτη κονσόλα που χρησιμοποιούσε επεξεργαστή, καθώς και δυνατότητα εναλλαγής παιχνιδιών με χρήση κασετών (cartridge). Αρχικά κυκλοφόρησε ως Video Entertainment System, όμως μετονομάστηκε σε Channel F.
The Fairchild Channel F was not the first home video game system, since this title belongs to either Magnavox Odyssey or Atari. However, it was the first such system to use a microprocessor and be able to play external games using ROM cartridges. Initially it was sold with the name Video Entertainment System, however it was renamed as Channel F.
