Tο Atari 2600, γνωστό αρχικά ως Video Computer System (VCS) ήταν η πρώτη κονσόλα που κυκλοφόρησε επίσημα από την ίδια την εταιρεία. Σε αντίθεση με το Magnavox Odyssey, χρησιμοποιούσε μικροεπεξεργαστή, ενώ μπορούσε να λειτουγήσει με διαφορετικά παιχνίδια αποθηκευμένα σε ROM cartridges.

The Atari 2600 was originally named Video Computer System (VCS). It was the first home video console with a dedicated CPU and the capability of using ROM cartridges to load games. It is considered one of the most influential home entertainment units of all time.
