Sinclair ZX Spectrum Next

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum Next is a modern reimagining of the classic ZX Spectrum, blending retro aesthetics with contemporary performance. Designed by the original Spectrum team, it features an FPGA-based Z80N processor running at selectable speeds of 3.5, 7, 14, or 28 MHz. The system boasts up to 2MB of RAM, expandable via internal and external modules, and supports advanced graphics modes, including 256 and 512-color displays at resolutions up to 640×256 pixels. It also introduces hardware sprites, enhanced ULA, and tilemap support for more dynamic visuals.

For audio, the ZX Spectrum Next offers traditional beeper sound, three AY-3-8910 programmable sound generators, and four 8-bit DACs implemented in FPGA, delivering richer soundscapes. Storage is facilitated through a DV-MMC-compatible SD card slot, with optional support for cassette tape and ZX Microdrive. Connectivity options include HDMI, VGA/RGB, PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse, and joystick ports compatible with Cursor, Kempston, and Sinclair protocols. Some models also feature Wi-Fi capabilities. The system operates on the NextZXOS, with compatibility for CP/M and ZX Spectrum BASIC.

Available in various configurations, including the ZX Spectrum Next Plus and Accelerated models, the ZX Spectrum Next caters to both retro enthusiasts and modern users seeking a versatile computing experience.
